NW Oklahoma Bat Count 2009 - page 2 of 2

Saturday - February 21, 2009 - The 3rd Saturday of February - on the average, the coldest weekend for an Oklahoma winter. It was pretty cool (low 30's with a great big northern wind chill!) Members of the Central Oklahoma Grotto (COG) get together at the Selman Cave Complex to do a bat count.

Members Present: Dale Amlee, Anne Ault, John and Sue Bozeman, Duane Del Vecchio, Becky Hunsinger, Dave McDermott, and Jon Waltz.

We split into two teams with each team doing different arms of the cave system. This web page deals with the entrances Square Sink, Skylight, and Ooh Ahh and all connecting passages as that's what part of the cave Duane was taking part with! <grin>

Anne counting the bats and calling out her counts to Duane (the recorder). Our newest member, Dave McDermott. His second bat count... he did pretty well too! But bat counts are always fun... as we get to see our friends up close.

Here is what the recorder's book looks like... recorded just as they call out the numbers. Dave taking a picture of us down at water level (though there was very small amount of mud much less water!) Hark... is that daylight in the distance?
